Technet's interface uses the Netscape Navigator Dial-Up Edition e-mail client. This allows you to store your mail on your hard drive rather than on Technet's computers. Additionally, many people feel that the graphically-based Netscape mail client is easy to use.
While running your Netscape browser window, look for the envelope icon in the lower right corner. Click this icon. This should display the Netscape Mail Window. (You may also click on the Window Menu and select the Netscape Mail option).
Click File, then Close. (You may also type Control-W.) Do not click on Exit: this will also close your Netscape Navigator window.
If the setup was done correctly, you should see a series of informational windows as the e-mail client contacts our mail server and retrieves your e-mail. You will then see the window below.
The top left side of the window displays your Folders. The top right lists the messages in the currently selected folders. When you click on any message in this list, the text of the message is displayed in the bottom half of the window. (See Netscape Folders for more detail.)

Netscape organizes your mail into Folders. Folders are collections of mail. When Netscape Mail first starts, there are two Folders: Inbox and Sent. Inbox contains all the mail addressed to you that has been retrieved from Technet's mail server. Sent contains copies of all mail you send to other people.
To select a folder, simply click on its name.
With a Folder open (see Netscape Folders) simply click on the message you wish to view. It will be displayed in the lower half of the screen. You may need to scroll to see the full list of all of the messages. After reading the e-mail you can Reply, or you can send new e-mail to anyone.
All the following options take you to the Message Composition Window. See that section for how to use it.
Click the To: Mail button. You should see the Message Composition Window.
Click the subject of the e-mail you wish to reply to and click the Re: Mail icon This will send email
only to the person who sent the original message.
The text of the message you're replying to is quoted in the Message Composition Window.
Click the subject of the e-mail you wish to reply to and click the icon This will send email to
everyone: the person who sent the original message and anyone the message is CCed to.
The text of the message you're replying to is quoted in the Message Composition Window.
The text of the message you're forwarding is quoted in the Message Composition Window. Forwarding is typically used to send the mail to other people to whom the message is relevant.
This window is where you type your message. It can be used to send both e-mail and news, or both at the same time. If you're creating a new message, type in the e-mail address and the subject (or click the Address button to use your address book entries). If you're replying, the subject and the e-mail address are already filled in (and the message you're replying to is quoted, as shown below.)

Type in the text of your e-mail in the lower area. When you're done, click Send.
If you're online, the message should be sent immediately. If you are not online, the message will be sent the next time you log into
Technet.
TIP: Press [TAB] to move from one field of the Message Composition Window to the next.
The attach function allows you to send files or Web pages through email. Simply click on the button, pick Attach URL to attach a Web page (and then type the URL in.) or Attach File to attach a file, and then browse to the file. Click
to finish attaching.
CAUTION: Technet strongly discourages sending attachments that are larger than 500 Kilobytes in size. Technet does not allow messages larger than 10 Megabytes to be sent. E-mail was not designed to send large files and the results are unpredictable and may cause difficulty downloading other email for both the sender and the recipient. Additionally, even if everything does work, the download times for large files can be substantial and the long download time may be confused with a crash, and the e-mail download may be stopped, causing other problems.
Select the message you want to print by clicking on the subject and click the Print icon. Click
to print.
Select the message you want to delete by clicking on its subject. Click the Delete button. This will
move the mail to your Trash folder. If you want to clean up your Trash folder, click on File and select the
Empty Trash Folder option. This will actually remove the mail from your hard drive.
With a message selected, click on the Message menu, and select the Move or Copy option. You should see a drop-down menu showing all your folders. Select the folder you want to move the message to. In the example shown, the current message, Your earlier e-mail is being moved to the Postponed folder.
The address book keeps track of e-mail addresses so you don't have to. It allows you to specify nicknames so you can send email to "John" instead of "John.Q.Public@someplace.com".
While reading a message (see Reading Your Email) click on the Messages menu and select the Add to
Address Book option You will see a Address Book window with properties. Type in a memorable and
easy to type nickname and click
.
EXAMPLE: You make the nickname "John" for John Q. Public. The next time you want to send John an e-mail message, just type "John" in the To: field and his e-mail address will be filled in for you.
Click on the Windows menu and select the Address Book option This will display the Address Book mailing list. If you've added e-mail nicknames, these should be listed here.
Next, click on the Item Menu, and select the Add Listoption. Type in a nickname for the list and click
.
You will return to the Address Book Window. Drag the addresses you want to add to the list on to the name of the mailing list, and they will be added underneath.
Now, you can mail to everyone on the list just by typing the nickname into the To: field in the Message Composition Window.
Click on Options, Mail and News Preferences. There are several Tabs in this section:
Message Style: You may specify a fixed font or a variable width font. Variable width font generally looks better, but some messages created used a fixed font may look odd because they used spaces to format.
Quoted text characteristics: You may specify that quoted text be bold, italic, both, or neither. Talk about options!
Pane Layout. Each area of the window is a pane. The default, horizontal.lays out the Folders and Messages pane at the top, with the message content pane on the bottom. Vertical lays out the Folders and Messages panes on the left side, with the message content pane on the right. Stacked lays out each pane beneath the previous pane.
NOTE: The change in appearance will take effect the next time you run the Netscape Mail Client.
By default, copy outgoing messages to the file: This option allows you to specify where and if all of your outgoing messages are saved. If you don't want them saved, simply leave these fields blank.
Automatically quote original message when replying. When you Reply to a message, the text of that message is automatically quoted by default so that you may have the content of that message to refresh the memories of both the sender and the recipient. If you'd rather not have this happen, deselect this option.
NOTE: Many of these setting are important to receiving your e-mail. Do not change any settings on this Tab without explicit instructions to do so, or you may not receive your mail. Most of these options will not normally need changing.
Messages are copied from the server to the local disk, then:
Removed from the server
This is the default, and it is normally the option you want.
Left on the server.
On the other hand, if you access your mail from two locations, such as the office and home, leaving the messages on the server allows you to have your e-mail in both locations, avoiding the frustration of having some e-mail on one computer and some on another depending on which computer you happened to download the mail with.
Alternatively, this also works if you're on the road and want to read your e-mail but still have it available on your normal machine when it gets back
Keep in mind, though, that in any case, Technet will delete the mail on the server after 14 days.
Normally, most of these fields will not need changing. Change only if your email address or organization changes.
Signature: If you want a signature file to be included with all messages, you may type its location or browse to it. This file should be a standard text file.
Remember mail password
Normally checked, this saves your mail password so you don't have to type it in by hand. Probably best left checked under most circumstances.
Sorting
You may sort your mailbox by Date, Subject, or Sender.
After you install the Netscape Mail software, all your new mail will be automatically sent to your computer. If you would like to access your mail, you must move it to where Netscape will retrieve it.
Telnet to grande. Log in. On the Menu system, type in EM to launch Gold Mail. Move the cursor down to the MAIL folder, and press [Space]. This will select all the mail in that folder. Next, type M to show the message menu, and then M for move. You should see a dialog box asking which folder to move the mail to. Type NEWMAIL and press [Enter]. You should see a series of informational messages giving you the progress of the message transfer. If you have more than one mail folder, simply repeat this process for each folder.
If this worked, the next time Netscape checks your mail, you should receive all of the mail you have moved.
